I love the addition of wood to a modern kitchen in our chilly climent here in Edmonton. Typically done with sleek and hard finishes, a touch of wood goes a long way to warm up the space. Cabinets in walnut, butcher block counters, harringbone flooring or even as small of a touch as some floating shelves may be all it takes.
If you are finding you have too much wood in your kitchen a way to modernize it is simply to paint out the largest surface (cabinets?) and let the rest really stand out. Consider a dark grey cabinet with limestone counter and wood floors. Or if you are ready to renovate my favorite is a combination of sleek walnut cabinets with white counters and walls – timeless!
