Our world has been turned upside down this past month and we are spending more time in our homes now than ever. With all this time indoors, how are you coping? Is your home driving you crazy? In today’s blog post we are going to discuss why interior design is more important now than ever and some practical tips to ensure you are happy in your space.
A SAFE HAVEN
Instead of telling yourself:
“I’m stuck at home”
try switching to:
“I’m safe at home”
And see how your attitude towards this current reality changes. Feeling like you are safe instead of stuck can change how you feel about your home, the people in it and how you go about your day.
COMFORT
Just how important is comfort in a home? According to Arch Daily “Environmental quality indoors is essential in an increasingly dense and populous world, and an uncomfortable, unsafe, or unhealthy interior space can be tremendously harmful to people’s physical and mental health, considering that we spend so much of our lives in it.”
Comfort is not just about air quality but can relate to the temperature, overall aesthetics, and aroma of the space. If we can take some of the basics of comfort and ensure they meet our needs, then we can start discussing the more refined ways we can add to the comfort of the home in the way it functions and the way it looks.
Tip: With all this extra time at home, make sure your smoke and CO2 detectors batteries are fully charged!
LIGHTING
Did you know that lighting temperature and brightness can make a big difference in how your home looks and feels?
Depending on the area of your home you’re thinking about, you may prefer a soft white light (like in a bedroom or living room) or a brighter cooler light (such as in a kitchen, bathroom, or at a desk). There is no right or wrong answer and it’s all about what you prefer – it’s your home afterall!
Tip: Make the switch to LED! Local lighting stores typically provide a 1 yr warranty on their bulbs and are doing curb side delivery for free during the pandemic. This is a great way to support a local business while improving your space with energy saving LED bulbs throughout your home!
PLANNING FOR CHANGE
With all this extra time at home, you are bound to notice all those little things (or big things) that drive you crazy about your home. If your home doesn’t function or look the way you want it to, now might be a great time to get planning for a future renovation.
Our firm is pretty much business as usual except our location has been changed. We are all working from the comfort of our own homes, but we continue to work seamlessly using zoom and Facetime for meetings! Our work can largely be done from anywhere and so we have been working away helping clients plan their dream homes and spaces. If parts of your home are driving you crazy, let’s talk about how we can help change that- book a complimentary discovery call
